Billings Architecture Association Competition 2023

The Prompt was to design a shade structure for the now in construction Skyline trail here in Billings, MT.  The problem I identified was that the trail sits at the crown of a steep 18′ high hill and some of the most scenic natural paths and lookouts sit on the hard rock cliff that starts at the bottom of this hill.  The Corridor acts as a vertical bridge providing an accessible path from the parking and multi-use trail at the top of the hill to the sandstone cliff at the bottom of the hill. The infrastructure that houses this accessible path acts as viewing platform, shade structure, and a place to gather.
